Typical facility work consists of routine applications such as negative staining, cryo-EM 2D imaging, fixation, staining and sectioning of biological material, providing images for morphological studies. Note that when facility work is performed for non-profit institutes we expect a co-authorship, while for commercial activities funding is required.
We regard services as facility work if the electron microscopy imaging is used to answer a concise and limited research question. In most cases, these projects are relatively short and our input is mainly technological in nature.
